Matt Groening has a new show! Holy heck, right? To mark this monumentous occasion we've joined forces with Elliot and BT from The Simpsons Index to discuss the first two episodes - what we thought, what we liked, what works and doesn't work, the discography of Hanson, Homer's 'The Odyssey', Smurfs, and a bunch of other stuff. Does it hold up to our expectations? Or did we come away from it...disencha(etc)? 

(I've watched the whole first season since, by the way. It's pretty decent. Not season 1 Futurama good, but the serialised plot is neat and the last two or three episodes really go all-in, which I admire.)

Something is amiss, and as great as these episodes are (Señor Plow no es macho / Es solamente un borracho) we must face up to the darkness they contain. What is causing the rift in space and time we witnessed in New Kid on the Block? Is there a sinister cabal working to bring something malevolent about? Who is Doctor Tongue? Who do you think that is there?

Springfield is a town of many mysteries, run by shadowy puppet-masters who control the lives of the town's citizens. Colossus, The Monroe Box, the omlette universe - there are many questions The Simpsons is yet to answer.

This week, we go through a news article from a dubious Australian news site about Mike Reiss' new book, 'Springfield Confidential: Jokes, Secrets, and Outright Lies from a Lifetime Writing for The Simpsons', and unpack his reveals. Do we feel richer for having these mysteries solved? Do we believe the solutions we're being fed? Or are the writers of The Simpsons still playing coy about the real secrets that lurk beneath the surface of Springfield?

As Nick goes through each mystery, James presents his own thoughts and theories. Does his knowledge of the show match up against one of the people who made it? Uh, probably not, right? Come listen.

This week on Pods in the Key of Springfield, James has a sore throat and can just barely croak out his bullshit! If you've ever wanted to hear a man slowly fall apart across 71 minutes, we've got it. Nick, whose throat is fine this week, wants to change PitKoS into a Slipknot podcast, but he does not succeed this week. Instead the pair discuss Homer the Heretic, in which Homer stops going to church, and Lisa the Beauty Queen, in which T is for Lisa's tooth-filled mouth. Season 4 is good so far, by the way.
