14: One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish / The Way We Was
Tuesday Oct 17, 2017
Tuesday Oct 17, 2017
Here it is, the most poorly named of Simpsons episodes! A Seussian nightmare that, as James explains in this episode (of Pods in the Key of Springfield, the very podcast you've stumbled upon), turned us all off fugu for life. Two sweet eps this week, as we also check out The Way We Was, featuring that piece of s**t Artie Ziff. In this one James and Nick compare bucket lists, discuss the intricate rules of basketball, play some music, unpack Nick's increasingly intricate Omlette Theory about the folded universe of the show, and talk about The Simpsons for about 56 of our 64 minutes, which is pretty good. We have fun! Come have fun with us!

13: Itchy & Scratchy & Marge / Bart Gets Hit By A Car
Tuesday Oct 10, 2017
Tuesday Oct 10, 2017
In this week's very special episode of Pods in the Key of Springfield, everyone's favourite special little guy - Bart, hellraiser, brother, son, underachiever and proud of it - gets hit by a car. Does he pull through? Is this the end for Bart, the tenacious little scamp we've come to know and love over the past 13 episodes of this podcast? Does he literally go to Hell for a while and meet the bloody Devil? Is the rest of the series...a death dream? Will, uh, Homer and Marge...*checks notes* break up? Wait, that's how the episode ends?
Oh, also, Marge takes on Itchy and Scratchy in an episode that has aged...poorly. That's the case with The Simpsons, sometimes. There's a good little Psycho bit, though.
Pods in the Key of Springfield: this week guest starring a man pretending to be Michael Caine.

12: Bart vs Thanksgiving / Bart the Daredevil
Tuesday Oct 03, 2017
Tuesday Oct 03, 2017
It's a Double Dose of Barty Boy! Today our good son Bart takes on Thanksgiving - a holiday that we, two Australians, obviously know a lot about - and Bart the Daredevil, the classic Marvel series where blind lawyer Bart battles the Kingpin on the streets of Hell's Kitchen. We dig deep into the psyche of lil' Bart, hellraiser, bad boy, skateboard pro, Thanksgiving non-observer, and his relationship with his terribly mistreated sister.
The highlight of this one is probably Nick's weird encounter with a haunted Domino's pizza. That's a good story.
(Our audio settings weren't quite as good on this one as we'd like. We changed things up from the next ep and it's much better, though.)

Eat My Shorts 1: Do the Bartman
Tuesday Sep 26, 2017
Tuesday Sep 26, 2017
Hey. What's happenin', folks? This week we have our first EAT MY SHORTS episode, where we cover a smaller part of The Simpsons universe, another little piece of Springfield that has seeped deep into our brains. This time, we look at 90s phenomenon The Bartman, the hip dance number that we would have been setting clubs alight with the 90s had we been the right age for it. Nick doesn't remember having ever seen it, while James is very impressed that director Brad Bird would go on to make The Incredibles and Mission Impossible 4 (which is definitely the best Mission Impossible, don't @ me).
We revisit Do the Bartman to better understand its popularity, to try and master its intricate moves, and to dig into the deeper meaning of what it means, exactly, to 'Do the Bartman'.
Everybody, if you can, Do the Bartman. If you can't, listen to this episode instead.

11: Dancin' Homer/Dead Putting Society
Tuesday Sep 19, 2017
Tuesday Sep 19, 2017
In this episode, James makes a bold proclamation: he's finally figured out what this podcast is about. "This podcast is about what life looks like when you've based it entirely around The Simpsons", he says. "When you have lived so deeply in the pockets of Matt Groening that every time you speak his lint falls out of your mouth". What more is there to say, really?
This week we watched Dancin' Homer (where Homer dances) and Dead Putting Society (the 1989 Robin Williams film about Bart playing mini-golf). We talk about The Simpsons a fair bit, and Nick talks about mowing the lawn, like, a lot. He does an *amazing* impression of a mower start-up motor and I don't feel like I fully acknowledged that during the episode because I just kind of wanted him to stop talking about mowers. The episode's good, though. Give it a listen.

10: Treehouse of Horror / Two Cars in Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish
Tuesday Sep 12, 2017
Tuesday Sep 12, 2017
Welcome to episode 10 of the Internet's only Simpsons podcast (we think?), which this week is largely about how much James enjoys 'The Raven' portion of the first Treehouse of Horror. It's also about the 2016 election, which, whiff.
James and Nick dig into the terrifying precience of that episode with the three-eyed fish and the sheer damn *quality* of Treehouse of Horror, which is really, truly wonderful. There's also a bunch of David Lynch stuff in this one, because James keeps turning this into a David Lynch podcast.
Pods in the Key of Springfield: educational, as well as inspid and vapid.

9: Bart Gets An F/Simpson and Delilah
Tuesday Sep 05, 2017
Tuesday Sep 05, 2017
We're on to season two now! Season two of The Simpsons, season two of our podcast. We made it, everyone.
This time we scope out Bart Gets An F - in which Bart gets an F - and Simpson and Delilah, in which Homer gets a hairs. The DVD skipped a bit, but we weather it. Season two really ramps up fast - the first episode is more harrowing and confronting than we expected - and we're ready to ramp up in turn.
There's a good little Harry Potter riff in this one. Nick laughs really hard about it.
Show notes are brief on this one because James, your beloved shownote writer, is tired. But, uh, this one's good! I think it might be our best yet! Please enjoy.

8: The Simpsons Movie (First Viewing)
Tuesday Aug 29, 2017
Tuesday Aug 29, 2017
Having wrapped up the first season, James and Nick check out The Simpsons movie, which they intend to revisit after each individual season, because...I don't know, it seemed like a fun gimmick until we had to actually watch the damn thing.
It's perhaps worth admitting that James and Nick end up not talking about The Simpsons Movie all that much. But next week, when season 2 starts back, your two new favourite podcasters (we assume) will be right back into it.
Thanks for checking out the first season of our podcast! Like! Subscribe! Call your son, who you know you should talk to more, and tell him about it!

7: Krusty Gets Busted/Some Enchanted Evening
Tuesday Aug 22, 2017
Tuesday Aug 22, 2017
In episode 7, we have some big shoes to fill.
Big shoes to fill.
Big shoes to fill.
Big sh(etc.)
It's the end of the first season of The Simpsons! Krusty gets framed for a crime he very clearly did not commit by Fraiser from Cheers! The Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers Babysitting Service's tremendously relaxed hiring policies cause misadventures for Bart and Lisa! Naturally, we have a lot to say.
In this one we try to get to the bottom of how illiteracy works, talk about Stephen King's weird naming policies, and spend a surprisingly long time on The Flintstones. It's good! The Simpsons is good. How many more seasons does it run for after this?

6: Homer's Night Out/The Crepes of Wrath
Tuesday Aug 15, 2017
Tuesday Aug 15, 2017
It's episode six! Season one is nearly over! For the duration of this episode a security update threatened to reset the computer within an hour, lending an air of urgency to proceedings (because we could not be bothered getting up).
In Homer's Night Out, Homer, like, dances with a woman and his life falls apart, somehow. It's not great, but we have a lot to say! Then The Crepes of Wrath, the family swaps little Bart for an Albanian lad, and it ends up being a good trade. Bring back Adil, please.
Across the course of this episode we take on capitalism, Lucille Ball, the Hollywood system, Vegas, Baby, Sherlock Holmes, Carmen Sandiego (and her position within the world) and more. It's good!
